Mandocello Backboard glue up!This is a post for yesterday... Since I was in the process of refreshing my website, I decided to postpone sharing this Blog post till today.
The Backboard glue up is completed, the ebony points are shaped and I feel like a kid in a candy store! So happy with the state of the build and I can hardly wait to hear this monster..

This step took quite a bit longer than I anticipated... Just the sheer size and the amount of wood to be removed. really happy with it and it's dry fitted... Coming up will be tap tuning the backboard and then the glue up!!
Yet another productive day in the shop today, My morning started with the shaping of the heel and the neck profile. Once completed I've when ahead with adding the back veneer onto the back of the peghead and finish drilling the hole for the tuners.
Stopped for lunch... Resumed with the neck glue up which although uneventful , was harder to insert that I had anticipated... And with the clock ticking on the glue open time, got me a little stressed out.. While the glue was setting on the neck joint, I decided to start the fretboard. On the pictures it might look too small widthwise but there will be binding around it which will give it the proper dimension. Next on my list... Carving the Backboard!!! Had a pretty good day in the shop today.. I was able to post my latest build video in the mandocello series. Shape, and drill the pilot holes in the peghead. really happy with the progress... |
