Making a Piano endgrain cuttingboard.
Measurement for the board:
The final dimensions for my Board is 16 1/2 x 10 1/2. The white keys are made with maple and have a width of 7/8 "inches. The bands are 1/16" thick walnut . You must make a 3pieces set of maple, and a 4 piece set.
The black keys are 9/16 " thick, and the maple between the black key is 5/8"(*look at note at the bottom*). When your maple assembly is made you can determine the required thickness for the maple located outside of the black keys .
The thickness of the board is cut 2 ", so I cut my pieces to 2 1/8 to be able to obtain the desired thickness after planning.
(**) There was a little mistake that I've made while in the process of building the board. when building the sharp and flat keys (black keys) the block with the F# to Bb (3 black keys) needs a different spacing then the other block. If you look carefully to the pictures of my board, the lines from the keys below end up being in line with the side of the keys. I've notice too late and decided not to waste the wood and carried on with the project. all that needs to change is the thickness of the maple strips between the F# and G# and between, the G# and Bb to get the walnut lines from the white keys to line up more properly. And also adjust the outside maple thickness of the block accordingly..
